How to Have A Low-Cortisol Christmas

As someone who understands the whirlwind that is the lead-up to Christmas, I know how easy it is to get caught up in the endless to-do lists, social events, and indulgences but over the years, I’ve worked hard to know that stepping back can be the best way to move forwards.

Looking out of the window of my Devon office right now, I am taking inspiration from nature by hunkering down and keeping out of the wind and rain.

I believe that this nature led approach (who even am I) can transform the festive season into a time of balance and joy, rather than stress and exhaustion.

This philosophy resonates deeply with the ethos of Eve Biology, a plant-based wellness brand dedicated to helping women prioritise their health and wellbeing, even during the most chaotic times.

In nature, winter is a time of rest and retreat, yet modern life demands the opposite. Instead of slowing down, we ramp up the pace, often at the expense of our health, and there is no doubt that festive overload can elevate cortisol, the body’s natural stress hormone, leaving many women frazzled, exhausted, and too tired to enjoy the magic of the season.

Eve Biology’s plant-based ethos embraces the rhythm of nature and offers solutions that help women stay calm, nourished, and energised throughout the holidays. Angela Patton, Founder of Eve Biology, shares:

Steps to a Low-Cortisol Christmas

Take a Christmas Run and Breathe in the Fresh Air
Step outside into crisp winter air. Whether you’re running through the woods, on the beach, or in your local park, being in nature can reduce cortisol and clear your mind, bringing calm amidst the Christmas chaos.

Savour Sweet Treats to Stifle Stress Hormones
Christmas wouldn’t be complete without festive goodies, but indulging too much at once can lead to energy crashes that trigger cortisol and adrenaline spikes. Spread your treats throughout the day and consider making festive flapjacks with oats, dried apricots, and cranberries for slow-releasing energy. Balance it out with a small piece of chocolate after dinner to satisfy your sweet tooth while staying grounded.

Fuel Up with an Eve Shake
When time is short, an Eve Shake can be your go-to festive helper. Packed with protein, adaptogens like Ashwagandha KSM-66, and essential nutrients, it helps balance hormones, support gut health, and maintain steady energy, all in one delicious drink.

Bring on the Essential Oils
Natural scents like lavender, frankincense, and nutmeg can help reduce cortisol levels and create a sense of tranquillity. Use a diffuser while wrapping gifts, add lavender to your pillow for restful sleep, or apply a peppermint oil roller for a quick mood boost. These aromatherapy tips help you stay grounded and connected to the calming rhythm of nature.

Claire Thomas, a Nutritionist for Eve Biology, adds:

“This Christmas, we want women to focus on balance and nourishment, not restriction, so they can feel their best and enjoy the magic of the season. Foods rich in omega-3s, magnesium, and adaptogens, like those in Eve Biology’s shakes, are excellent for managing cortisol levels, reducing stress, and supporting overall wellbeing.”

Claire’s tips include starting the day with a protein-rich breakfast, such as scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or porridge with nuts and berries. Snacks like nuts, dried fruit, or dark chocolate can stave off sugary highs, while meals like lentil soup or turkey salad with pomegranate seeds keep you nourished. Stay hydrated with infused water or calming herbal teas like peppermint or chamomile.
